Bishop David Oyedepo, A Sincere Man of God Who Spoke the Unpalatable

Let no one impugn Bishop David Oyedepo for his prayer for Nigeria. Our religious leaders are adherents of the popular Yoruba adage that forbids Abore of saying the unpalatable. Consequently, they enliven our dashed hope with their lies. He is a Nigerian, he feels what you and I feel and he knows so well that this federation is not working why then still forcefully sticking ourselves together?

The history of Nigeria, to start with, gave us the impression that we are rather heading toward failure than progress. What have you to say about merging peoples with different languages, traditions, cultural values, norms, religions and beliefs into a country and name it Nigeria? From independence, the three major tribes have neither really agreed nor united for our nation to sail on successfully.

This cannot be dodged. We cannot escape violence, disunity and clamouring for secession. We cannot but continue to drag this nation backward because we were forced to confederate by aliens who never took into consideration our dispositions. We cannot experience real peace if a section of the country still holds on to the belief that they have to rule in all spheres where rulership is required. How do you think we can experience true peace when a section rules the three arms of government, the armed forces and heads all governmental agencies?

As if that is not enough, religion in its own part widens our brotherhood gap and plunges the nation into crises. It sharpens and erect our senses of intolerance. All these, exacerbated by poverty and hardship, show that we are not moving forward. We only feed ourselves with lies.

For example,  the Presidency daily claims it is making feats of successes and progress yet it is obvious that no progress is underway. Our security agencies announce how crime and insecurities are professionally curbed yet you and I know that our lives and properties are not secured. They claim to be alleviating poverty yet what we feel is bludgeoning and pummelling. We claim unity in diversity and we know it is a sham, from the tongue and not from the heart.

What an incredulous deceit!  Even the type of our democracy is erected upon deceitful foundation. leaders are not faithful and we, the citizens, augment their unfaithfulness with our insincerity. We have on daily basis fed ourselves with the contrasts of reality but this man of God refused to ply the same path.

I love him for not soothsaying positive future in a country where nothing is working out. I love him for not kindling hope where he sees no hope unlike other Pastors and G.Os.

I join him in saying the prayer again, Lord, if it is your will to break up Nigeria, break it (patapata) now!
